Chanukah is a Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Greco-Syrian Empire. It is truly a time of celebration, for the holiday this momentous event, was an uprising in the name of religious freedom! After a hard fought victory by the Maccabees, whom I adore, they cleaned the Temple which had been defiled. Chanukah means: dedication! To dedicate the temple, Holy oil was needed to light the Temple’s great candelabrum. The Maccabee Brothers searched, but found only one small cruse of sacramental oil, barely enough to last a day! Knowing it would take eight days to prepare the new holy oil, they nevertheless used the little bit of oil and lit the menorah. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days! A very Happy Chanukah to my Family and Friends and all who celebrate💫 #chanukah#maccabeebrothers#maccabees#miracle#sacramentaloil#oil#temple#dedication#eightdays#religiousfreedom
I owned more clothing then most people I know. People used to say to me "Jade I have never seen you in the same outfit twice." I had a whole room full of clothing, a lot of designer brand name clothes, I used to pride myself on my outfits.
All smoke and mirrors of course, i was addicted to shopping and buying clothing was just another band aid for healing my pain.
I was a slave to owning so much "stuff!" My house was full and 3 whole sheds! Full of crap! I'd cry and look at all my belongings and say "I can't handle this any longer." Months before I took off, I got rid of nearly everything I own! I left a few boxes of things at my Mums and I took off to live my life travelling the globe.
I thought life would be so hard with nothing, but it's so wonderful and exciting and I love not being chained into places.
This skirt I have on in the picture I wear 2-3 times a week. It is now faded, has had 3 holes patched and I continue to wear it. When I was getting rid of all my clothing, most of the stuff had tags still attached.
For me getting rid of everything that was holding me back in my past was true freedom. Minimalism has allowed me to live a life of purpose and passion.
Less stuff means more living!
I'm on my way to another city today!
Love Life and Live Free!
Chanukah is all about celebrating miracles. In our history it was the legend of the Maccabee's victory or that the oil they used to rededicate the Temple lasted for 8️⃣ days(!!!). --------------------
Today we give gratitude for so many miracles: for our communities filled with (adorable!) children, for the ability to give and receive love and warmth, and damn good latkes. --------------------
Light the first 🕯, give a hug, share a latke, and shine your light!
I find myself becoming greedy. Greedy for new experiences, new sights and cities. I’ve become an addict for adventure, and I’m afraid there is no cure.
Don’t mind me, I’m just completely nerding out over the fact that I AM STANDING IN FRONT OF ABU SIMBEL!!!! No big deal, totally normal.
