My Hobby Turned Into My Profession
This picture on the surface seems like I am showing off. My shirts off, in the beautiful pool at my new place in Austin, working from my phone, picture taken with a 6k plus camera setup from my in house videographer (@ricofit23), on a Wednesday at 2pm because I'm in control of my schedule.
But this didn't come overnight....not a month, not a year but 6 years of daily momentum leading me to this very moment in time.
Did you know that at 20 years old, I told myself I was going to make this happen? I became anti social because I needed to find who I truly was. I needed to do a deep dive and change my actions to match where I wanted to go.
I asked myself "Zach, what will people say about you at your funeral?" I didn't like that answer. I would've never heard the answer, "Zach made me a better person. Zach helped me change my life." The answer I would've gotten most at that time was, "Zach was really cool and was fun to be around." That's it. That's not enough for me. I knew I was destined for more.
So I needed to become a person of value. And I saw the health space as where I wanted to go. So I became a sponge. Learned everything I possibly could. I graduated school at 22 with a Degree in Economics but read all the anatomy/physiology, nutrition textbooks that those majoring in those fields would. I did this in my "spare time". So by the time I graduated I had to make a decision... it was a prestigious job on Wall Street or go home and start my own gym (Genetic Potential Academy). And as most of you all may know, My first business was a gym.
And I thought that was where my heart was. I thought training clients was my purpose. But as the gym continued to grow, I started feeling indifferent about it. I was training clients for 8-12 hours per day. And my stress reliever during this time was cooking. I would spend the spare 1-2 hours I had per day making fun recipes. Not because I thought it would turn into FDL but just because I loved it. And for a year, that's what I did. I got better and better and started sharing these recipes with the world.
