Picturesque Piran (Pirano in Italian), sitting pretty at the tip of a narrow peninsula, is everyone’s favourite town on the Slovenian coast. Its Old Town – one of the best-preserved historical towns anywhere on the Adriatic – is a gem of Venetian Gothic architecture, but it can be a mob scene at the height of summer. In quieter times, it’s hard not to fall instantly in love with the atmospheric winding alleyways, the sunsets and the seafood restaurants.

Today this emerald Soča River (photo by @brianwlackey) has reached 2.000 cubic meters per second, a level measured only for the fourth time in a history of measurements! Huge amounts of snow in Alps melted in a few hours, accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds. No photos tagged though. Quite a few other parts of Slovenia are flooded too and winds caused a lot of damage, mostly in mountains regions.

The River Soča, which has a distinct emerald green colour, is considered to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. Its water flows across waterfalls, small waterfalls, and cascades as well as through narrow rocky gorges, and along the way it has carved surprising canyons and pools /slovenia.info/

Every so often, I feel that my time in certain places has been cut short. Due to prior engagements, I had to leave when I didn’t feel like I was fully done exploring. Sometimes, this means I didn’t get to enjoy a certain monument, other times it means I didn’t have a free day to wander around. Every time this happens, instead of wishing I had more time, I think of it as an opportunity to return. I know I will be back to Slovenia 🇸🇮😊
