Solar panels at a photovoltaic (PV) power plant belonging to the Panda Green Group in Yongsheng county, Yunnan province, on April 15th 2017. China's National Energy Administration (NEA) reports that power from wind, solar and hydro plants is often wasted as there is not enough transmission capacity to absorb it. The NEA plan to cut waste of solar power in Gansu and Xinjiang provinces to below around 20 percent and in Shaanxi and Qinghai to below 10 percent this year. This breathtaking view captured by the talented @ihaveadarksoul is taken from the summit of Carrauntoohil — the highest peak of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks mountain range in county Kerry. Guided tours of this range can be provided by highly experienced climbers, promising to fill your expedition with interesting facts, information and tales of intrepid explorers. A major feature of the Wild Atlantic Way, County Kerry is home to some of Ireland's most unspoiled areas and is undoubtedly a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. Carrauntoohil can be conquered via the Devil's Ladder Route, and takes between 4-6 hours to complete. Although, when the scenery is as pure as this, it seems entirely worth it.

We had recon'd this slope a few weeks prior. This would be my first powder lap of the season. As we made our way to the base it became clear that this was a pretty wind affected slope. We dug a pit and at the end of the tests came to the conclusion that it was bomber. I will definitely be back throughout the season to see how the snow pack evolves, however. As this season swings into full gear I can't stress how important it is to get professional avalanche education. The ability to identify objective hazard is what will keep you alive in the mountains. So many great climbers and skiers have been lost to avalanches. As a wilderness medical professional I can tell you that avalanche mortality is a lot higher than some will let on. Carry a shovel, probe, and beacon and know how to use it.
